They are that he brings the gun straight home after he bought it, and the gun would be for his father. Instead of doing what was asked of him, he came home later, and hid the gun. The next morning he got up early and went to work in the fields for Mr. Hawkins. He took the mule Jenny and went to plow the fields. He plowed two rows and stopped and decided to shoot the gun. When he shot the gun he realized that he’d shot Jenny. When Dave took the mule back to Mr. Hawkins, he lied and said the hole just appeared there. His parents came out there and got the truth out of him. After Dave told the truth, Mr. Hawkins said that when he works, it’ll be to pay for the mule.
