I’m not sure the move did a great job of showing that in the mother daughter relationship between Sylvia and Isobel because although Sylvia still adhered to the old customs Isobel was starting to warm up the servant, Elsie. It did show though that in the beginning Isobel showed much disrespect to some of the servants, but it was not nearly as bad as what Lady Trentham was doing to everyone of a lower class around her. Between the older generations the relationships they held with the servants were relatively the same. The same can be said with the servants, they also followed what the older servants were doing which persisted the behavior. The third principal states that social stratification is universal but variable.
