A girl named Disaster
... everyone except her grandmother and her cousins. What she is really afraid of though, is how the man she must marry will treat her especially since he already has other wives. Because of this, Nhamo’s grandmother instructs her to go to her father in Zimbabwe using the Musengezi River. Nhamo obeys and gathers food, a knife, and Crocodile Guts boat. >Trying to be strong, Nhamo sets off on which she thinks is a two day journey. She struggles with her small amount of food and almost drowning. Her boat had a huge hole in it and it desperately needed to be fixed, so she stops on an island to try to make a new one as well as plant some more food. She gets carried away and spends too much time on the island but finally leaves when she is scared off the island by a leopard. Nhamo, very exhausted, reaches land inhabited by people. They show her the path to Zimbabwe, which she follows, supposedly being possessed by a which, Long Teats. On the way, Nhamo gets chased by dogs, taking up all of her energy. Exhausted, Nhamo faints and a scientist finds her and takes her in. Nhamo thinks she is her mother and that she belongs with her the scie...
