alcohol and adolescents
...se. (Reilly, 1976) In my opinion, I totally agree with what they are saying. In my case I grew up with two older brothers to look out for me, and to look up too, not only as role models but also as friends. While I was growing up through high school my brothers told me if they ever caught me involved with drugs they said I would get the, “you know what beat out of me.” In some cases, I think adolescents need someone to look up to in their lives, as young teens. I know in my case it definitely worked in my favor. Kids who hardly or never abuse alcohol reported too much more family involvement, then do kids who abuse it. Nonusers are said they spend their free time with their families as appose to the “abusers” who hardly spend time with their family. I think this all comes down to the type of friends you have, if you don’t have very good friends then I think you would spend a lot more time with your family as appose to you having really close friends and spending more time with them. I was not an abuser of drugs but for my free time, I would not go hang out with my family, but my family and I could have not been more close to each other. So I am not too sure where they would haven gotten this information. In some cases, it gets very tragic for the young adolescents. Several studies have found that high quantity drinking among adolescents results in numerous, immediate negative consequences, such as fatal automobile accidents, injuries, and risky sexual behavior. Although many researchers concentrate on negative consequences, such as criminality and health problems, it also is possible that heavy drinking in junior and senior high school could interfere with the development of social competencies and impair prosocial development. There was a study to examine both the negative and the positive outcomes for the heavy drinkers. The point being was that the consequences of adolescent drinking would differ for youths with developmentally different drinking patterns. Negative outco...
