advertisement postive effect on society

...ne of public response is that these ads are not sexist. In fact they show an equal amount of power between the male and female sex. Our first advertisement is for “Curious”, a fragrance made by Britney Spears. This ad shows her becoming a lady and a man struck with curiosity. Though it does not show any sexual explicit pictures it does however let the mind imagine the curiosity of life and living a daring and risky life. Jean Kilbourne has brought this statement about the ad. “The woman in this picture being powerless under the seduction of the mans sex spell. She is driven by a curiosity of another man to explore into the depths of what is mysteriously behind the door. The man has seduced her into a state of wondering what it would be like for her to indulge and go against her feelings. Her shoulders are propped back she really is tense is her heart doesn’t want her to do this. The man in the background represents a dark shadow that haunts her but with his dark cold presence there is nothing she can do. She is wearing pink representing innocence that the man will take over. Hence she does not want to indulge but at the same time she cannot get away from him. That is a very entertaining way of looking at this picture. Here to the public’s eye and how the ad was truly trying to be brought up is this. There is a woman going to mysterious door with a guy following her. She is dressed sexy and looks very attractive. There is a man in the shadows dressed in all black. You cannot see his face clearly because he is in the shadows. The woman is in control by the fragrance she is wearing. It has caught the man in the shadows attention and brought up a sense of curiosity and mystery. She is letting her curiosity drive over her and take a man leading him to a world of wonder. Her eyes show a seducing power to the man and the viewer’s. She chose what to wear and made the guy follow. The woman shows the power so the public and the images prove the point that she is the one whom clearly has the power of her curiosity controlling the man. The ads only intentions were to show the power of the fragrance Curiosity and that it is an attractive smell. This ad shows know sign of the woman being represented helpless or powerless. Our next add GraceNet has brought up is one from the store Hype. It is a clothing store located on the west coast that sells many modern day fashion items. In this ad Jean Kilbourne states: “That the man clearly show his power of the upper hand over the woman. He has anger towards life while the woman is letting this pass bye. This shows that she has seen this anger before and is used to it and lets it go by. The mans defined body with the shirt open shows that he is a strong man. He is physically and mentally stronger than the woman. The woman’s arms crossed and sunglasses over her eyes show the viewers that she is too timid to do anything to stop him. The sunglasses hide what she truly feels inside so the world cannot see what the woman is feeling or thinking. She holds on to her purse for a sense of security that she can not get with this man.” Once again Ms. Kilborne brings up very interesting ways of letting an innocent advertisement being blown out of proportion The publics view is that the man thinks he is in control. A fault that this picture does have is the idea of an over aggress...
