...ve the Earth. Prometheus Prometheus saw man in their caves, sitting in the dark, and eating raw meat and he pitied them deep in his heart. Because of this, Prometheus pleaded with Zeus to give man fire to cook their meat and illuminate their dark lives. What Prometheus pointed out as unintelligence, Zeus called innocence and ignorance, and therefore he sharply denounced Prometheus' plea. Prometheus would not settle for this, and so he stole fire and gave it to man. He told man that it would hurt if you touched it, and that they must not let it grow too large or it would eat everything in sight. He began roasting a hunk of meat on this fire and the humans devoured it very pleased. After time, humans did not only have fire, but houses, farming, and technology. Zeus was so angered at this that he chained Prometheus to a mountain with the strongest chains and let vultures eat his liver every day. However, one day Herculese was able to release Prometheus and free him from eternal torment. Pandora After chaining Prometheus to the mountain, Zeus decided that this was not punishment enough for. Zeus had decided that he would punish all of humanity forever. He had a woman made of clay in Hera's image and he breathed life into her. Each of the gods gave her a gift, and the last, Hermes, gave her the gift of inquisitiveness and a box he told her to never open. Zeus gave Pandora to Promethus' brother, Epimetheus, who accepted Pandora immidiately. They lived happily for a time together, but after a while Pandora felt an aching to open the box. She thought that Hermes was just kidding about not opening the box, little did she know. She opened the box and small locust like insects swarmed out into the world. These insects were the plagues of mankind, death, old age, torment and all others. Pandora did, however, manage to keep the last one from escaping. This was the plague of futuresight, for with this, humans would have no hope for they know what would happen. Zeus found this entertaining, he was pleased watching manking toil and war with themselves awaiting the day that they would destroy themselves. Orpheus Orpheus had the amazing ability to make the most beautiful music on his lyre.
