In contrast to Marx, religion, here, has a positive function. Social conditions and Religion Social conditions shape a persons specific nature in the way they think and belief and act, and these social conditions shape religious values and so the religious values will often change. The purpose of religion is to escape human suffering. Similar to Marx’s view, religion focuses on redemption in a way to lessen the focus on the pain and suffering. The Concept of God The concept of God depends on a persons social status and their culture. He is objective and transcendent from the world, and alongside Marx, Weber saw God as a human creation. Weber had a strong view on monotheism. The monotheistic God has been created from other previous religions. The world, therefore has created God.
