MTV: The Root of All Evil

The young people who tune in everyday are only aware of artists from as long as four months ago, which is understandable considering the staying power of some of today’s new music icons. Not only are kids being brainwashed into believing the artists shown on MTV are talented, they are given a false-image of the real world. First off, the channel airs a show called just that: “The Real World”, the father of all reality shows, which is anything but a reality. Since when do ten or so young, attractive, socially-accepted individuals live together for months while being watched by practically the rest of the universe every week, if not more often? Second, in most music videos, the artists always seem to be part of either a filthy rich or dirt poor society. In many rap or pop videos, performers are dressed up in designer clothes, driving tank-sized automobiles with unnecessarily large rims, and supplied with plenty of “bling-bling” or scantily clad women. In other cases, musicians are supposedly “back in their roots”, with images of poverty or rough lifestyles, where stealing and fighting was seen as a necessity and contributed to his or her success. Videos such as these confuse many of today’s simple-minded teenagers, who often believe that, to become a successful person, one must come from either the projects or Beverly Hills. MTV has contributed nothing but lies and pseudo-entertainment to the world for the past decade or so.
