Film makers as Businessmen, and ... Moore???
... of film making. If his views were not tainted, as a director, and he made no money, would he still be an important figure for film making theories? The ever increasing film budgets and salaries have overshadowed the integrity of movie making. Especially in today’s society, sex sells! You would never see a man and a women in bed together fifty years ago, especially naked and in provocative positions. By appealing to the modern day ethics, film makers can target their audience to create higher revenues. Whether or not the film makers are specifically stereotyping their audience, they do seem the create more money on films that would appeal to a mass population, rather then creating a film based solely on their own beliefs. Negating the idea of film makers as moral influence figures, Sydney Pollack comments that he does not make films based on the good of society. “ our first obligation is to not bore people; it isn’t to teach.”(Pollack 524) Pollack realizes that instilling values through movies would be near impossible. Ranging from and opposition of our president, to a tragic shooting in a small suburban neighborhood, to lightheartedly portraying an animated world war, these real events are what stimulates public approval. To say that the film makers made these movies based solely on an opinion they personally had would be misleading. It is understood that everyone has opinions, but in a money making industry, your opinions are sidelined to the opinions that will make money. One of the most controversial film makers to date is a man named Michael Moore. Michael Moore is not an upscale, wealthy individual who decided to carry on “legacy money.” Moore is an individual, residing in Flint, Mi, who truly does captivate audiences, whether it is in favor or opposition of his beliefs. In his blockbuster hit Fahrenheit 9/11, Michael Moore is truthful and opinionated on his opposition to the presidency of President George W. Bush. In a 2004 interview ...
