Machiavelli
...Index of Prohibited Books. Machiavelli was famous for many quotes and lines in The Prince that were shocking and interesting quotes. One of his good ones is in chapter 6 he says “is necessary to take such measures that, when they believe no longer, it may be possible to make them believe by force. " This is an important quote because he says that if someone will not do what you say when you want them to do it or believe in something then he will either force you to do it by saying he will kill you with a force of army or lock you up. He also said in chapter 8 that “For injuries ought to be done all at one time, so that, being tasted less, they offend less; benefits ought to be given little by little, so that the flavour of them may last longer." This quote means that if your going to take out someone in a war or battle, it’s better to sweep them all at once rather than take piece after piece and give them the whole thing. " This quote is important because every ruler that was considered great in their time was a ruler that killed many by the thousands or was a ruler that would hack off someone’s head for no reason. All the ruler’s that were way nice and never took anyone’s lives in war or any other argument wasn’t looked upon as a great king or ruler of the great time. Another quote was in chapter 18 he said “You must know there are two ways of contesting, the one by the law, the other by force; the first method is proper to men, the second to beasts; but because the first is frequently not sufficient, it is necessary to have recourse to the second. Therefore it is necessary for a prince to understand ho...
