Equality
...is only pertinent during our day and age. There has never once been nor will there ever be total equality in society. Hence the need for man to continually strive for this idealism. I would consider this to be the number one social issue today because it is the stem of many societal problems. Women in our country are still suffering from the oppression they have endured in the past. This is evident when, in a society where women are now able to hold the same jobs as men, they still on average get paid less then men for the same jobs. Racism in our country can be traced through slavery, the Civil Rights Movement and unfortunately still exists today. Although our country is constantly improving in this area, hate crimes are still frequent, with racism as the leading cause. On a smaller scale, I see segregation every day when I walk into the school cafeteria where it is rare to black students and white students intermingle. Finally, th...
