Stanley Kunitz

...ction of how Kunitz life has been in the past. Stanley's high school education began in Worcester and later received a scholarship to the college of Harvard University. After he graduated summa cum laude, he applied for a job at Harvard and was rejected because of his Jewish background. This left him devastated, but kept his life in check by finding various jobs. These jobs included teaching at multiple universities other that Harvard. Stanley's contributions in Literature are numerous. At the age of nineteen, he wrote the collection, "Passing Through," that won the National Book Award. Kunitz's passion for poems continued until he was ninety-five, when he earned the name of Poet Laureate of the United States. He also won the Pulitzer Prize for the work, "Selected Poems." The poem that will be discussed next is "Father and Son" by Stanley Kunitz. The poem is about a son mourning the loss of his father that committed suicide six months before his birth. The poem begins by the son saying that he will follow his father's steps and teachings in times of trouble. The son then goes on to explain that his walk with God was very unstable. He said he loves Jesus and was trying to improve his relationship with Him. He talks of God's silent ways of working, or prayer, and how it affects him personally.
