...y thing that helps us understand and learn what life was like then is the court case and how Tom Robinson was treated unfairly. There were many themes in the book. The main theme of the book was that you should not judge a person by the color of his skin and that racism is not necessary in life. The other main one is that you can’t tell what type of person a person is unless you get to know them. The last main theme is the ideal of real courage. A quote from the book that helps us better understand this theme is said by Atticus, the father of Jem and scout. This is what the quote said “I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what." This means that you don’t quit even if you know your not going to win. This was shown by the way Atticus never gave up on Tom. He did it all the way through, up until Tom’s death. The movie changes the characters (or takes them out) and eliminates a main theme. I know that when books are made into movies that the director and producers have to take out some details but the way they do this in this movie just ruins it. The extended family of the Finches was taken out. This means that there was no Aunt Alexendra in the movie. There was no Finches Landing and no fight between scout and Francis.
