As young children or adults, a person could be kidnapped. One person would get another person drunk so they did not know what was going on and then kidnap them. Then they could bring them to an unfamiliar place and have them become a slave. Lastly, there was pawnage. If a person fell into debt, they would pledge themselves and their family as slaves. The slave would live with the creditor, until the debt was paid off. In some cases, some men would give permission to the creditor to marry their daughter as a pay off. There were many uses of slaves that helped the masters and their families. They were used as domestic servants where they would do housework such as cleaning and cooking. Women were also used to service the king sexually if needed. Slaves were used as soldiers and protected the country. Slaves were also used as laborers on the plantations. During the 15th century the sugar plantations were very important and slaves would be used to maintain them. The most expensive slaves were government administration slaves. They were used in the palace, and they no longer had their families. They were very loyal and important slaves. Slaves would also perform in the palace as dancers and musicians. Islamic slaves had many rights compared to slaves in the Americas. If their was a health or physical problem with a slave, the master must give them medical attention.
