...ng that gives most people a sense of patriotism. Therefore, taking the words “Under God” out of the pledge, would be disappointing for the public. There are many reasons as to why we should keep the pledge they way it is. Reason 1: The public wants to keep the phrase in the pledge. According to an Associated Press poll, almost 9 in 10 people said the reference to God belongs in the pledge, despite constitutional questions about the separation of church and state. The fact that the majority of Americans want to keep the phrase, “under God,” in the pledge must count for something. This country is based on democracy, a government “for the people by the people,” I think it’s obvious what the public want. Reason 2: God is everywhere in America. Let’s say you do take the phrase “Under God” out of the pledge. What’s next? Are you then going to remove the phrase “in God we trust” from the top of the dollar bill and coins? Or change the oath where is tells you to tell the truth so help you “god”, all because these things have the word god in them? No matter how hard people try, there is never going to be a complete separation of church and state.
