However, the two regions had many disputes just as the Tariff of 1828 and 1832 anger the South, specifically South Carolina, that led to the idea to revolt against the laws tat the North tried to set, this is called “nullification.” The angry South rebelled against the Tariffs that led to the President to pass the “Force Bill,” that allowed the President o use the army to collect the tariffs. Issues like these led to the idea of the South seceding from the North. The election of 1860 was based on two platforms that contradicted each other. The Republican Party prohibited the congress, or territories legistrature, or any individual to legalize slave states in the United States. The Republican Party was obviously the North. The Democratic Party believed in leaving things hot they are and let states choose whether or not to become a slave state (Doc 1).
