...nly is our religion different, but our traditions are different also. There are certain rules that we have to follow according to the Bible. The Muslims follow the rules according to the way that they are written in the Koran. We as Chaldeans have our own language as well. By the time I arrived in Michigan, I had forgotten most of the Chaldean language. The reason was because in Holland, there weren’t many Chaldeans, and my parents mostly spoke the Arabic language mostly. The language is used frequently by Chaldeans in Michigan, so I relearned it a few months after we arrived in Michigan. I have learned that without the connection between us, we could forget our traditions and language. There were Chaldeans churches in Iraq that we attended on weekends and holidays. The masses were held by priests in the Arabic and Chaldean languages. In Michigan, there are Chaldean Churches also. We assemble to pray, learn, and meet one another. You could meet friends who you haven’t seen in years or since being separated because of immigration. I think that the church is what connects us, Chaldeans especially. We learn the traditions from our religion through the Bible and the Church. Our delicious food is of course what keeps our family together every Sunday of the week. We have different type of Iraqi food. There are different types of receipts, but most contain rice. There are many Arabic restaurants in Michigan that sell delicious Arabic food. Many Chaldeans gather in restaurants on the weekends. You could recognize many Chaldeans in Michigan Chaldeans in Michigan by the statues of Jesus Christ or Mary on their front porches. Many Chaldeans like to represent themselves as strong believers in God and the Catholic religion. We all grew up learning about our religion and traditions from our families. Most Chaldeans have a rosary hanging in their cars or a tattoo of a cross as a symbol to represent their beliefs in the Catholic religion. I have a rosary a rosary hanging in my car, but I think that a tattoo could wait. I have been discriminated against in Europe because I’m an Iraqi, but I don’t think that the reason was because I’m a Chaldean....
