In spite of the fact that they know who he is they respect him the same way to call him by his forename, “Came a day when Atticus told us,” is an example of how they speak about him. Once Atticus does arrive home he spends as much quality time with them as possible by playing, general chat or reading the newspaper. Due to the way he acts towards his children, they are very mature and sophisticated for their age; ahead of all the other children in their class at school. The Finch family is probably the best and most loving family in the whole of Maycomb county. Atticus works very hard all day, and when the kids come home from school, Calpurnia, the maid, even though she is thought of as part of the family, is there for the children, to make their dinner and more. Once Atticus does arrive home he spends as much quality time with them as possible by playing, general chat or reading the newspaper. Due to the way he acts towards his children, they are very mature and sophisticated for their age; ahead of all the other children in their class at school. Other families, such as the Ewells, do not get on as well. In the Ewell family, there is also no mother present. Bob Ewell’s eldest daughter is the mother figure to her many brothers and sisters. She has to put up with a lot of stress and hard work. Bob Ewell treats his daughter wrong as he interacts with her sexually, and abuses her in beatings of his power against her fragile, and weak self. In the Ewell family household there is no trace of loving emotions; it is all an atmosphere of built up anger, rage and hate. However, when someone has done something wrong within the family, may it be to someone else in the family or someone outside the family, they are willing to lie and stand by each other. The Radleys are mysterious and everyone in Maycomb would never dare to even go near their door when walking past. This is how scared they are. The Radleys are a very quiet family, who keep to themselves due to an embarrassment to Mr and Mrs Radley over their son’s antics when he was younger.
