While under the influence they were caught steeling a car and driving around the courthouse backwards. They were also charged for cussing in front of a lady, and assault and battery to a cop. Rather than serving his punishment his father locked him up for fifteen years. Nobody heard from him until he stabbed is father in the leg with a pair of scissors. The police took him to the courthouse basement, but once again his father took him back home. Years later his parents died and his older brother Nathan replaced his father. Sadly nothing in Boos life changed. Because few facts were known about Boo the children of the neighborhood began making up stories to fill the void in his life. In these legends Boo was a six and a half foot pale ghost, whose dead body was stuffed up in the chimney. They say is face looked like a skull, with bug bulging eyes. Across his face was a jagged scar. His teethe were rotting and he tended to drool. Boos hands were permanently blood stained from eating raw animals and mutilating cats and dogs. Jem added to the legends by hypothesizing that his parents had chained him to his bed, and that Boo spent his days whittling away at the furniture. He also added to them by saying that Boo had bitten off his mothers’ finger. According to the Maycomb County School children the pecans on his tree were poisoned. They also believe that he only came out at night, and he dragged his feet when he walked, as if they were full of cement. While he was out he peeped into peoples windows and scratched on their screen doors. Although these stories aren’t true the children were fascinated by them. These fascinations only helped feed their hunger to want to see him. The children attempted to interact with Boo many times and unknowingly succeeded. The first contact made was when Dill dared Jem to slap the Radley house and when he did they say curtains moving upstairs.
