...re judging this show? • The judges of Popstars have to make some hard choices during the proces, knowing that one part of the TV-viewers agrees and the other part disagrees. They have to be hard and not let the feelings take over. • The judges are people who have been in the musicbusiness for years. In the first Danish serie of programmes the judges were Simon Junker, a manager, Louise Ellerbæk, a professional singer and Poul-Martin Bonde, a production manager. Second time the show was made the judges were Simon Junker again, Tonia, a professional dancer and Søren Sko, a professional singer. • All through the proces the judges make a great deal out of telling the non-chosen participants what they did wrong, and why they were not chosen. WHAT kind of persons participate in this show? • The people who goes to a Popstars audition is mainly young people between 16 and 30 years. Almost every boy and girl who go to the auditions, believe that they have the most wonderful voice, and want to have a career in the music industry. • But not everyone has this dream... Some only attend the auditions for fun, and cannot sing at all.... Only sometimes these people or just this one boy or girl who only attended for fun really ends up in the workshop, which is very close to the final. Why is it a popular show? • One of the reasons why people watch the show, is that they want to see it and be able to laugh at it because it must be so embarrassing for the participants, who really cannot sing. • Further along in the show the fun is to see a popstar "being born". These are mainly the reasons why people watch the show Popstars. The process… • The process starts with an audition where girls and boys from the whole country can join the competition and perform. The first performance only last a minute, where they sing one of the few elected songs. From the couple of thousands people the judges choose about 200 participants to go on. From here the final elections start where they sort more and more people from the show. • The judges let the participants go through different kinds of try outs in a workshop where they can show their talents. The most important round of the show is the final performance, where the last ten persons have a final make-over and perform individually for the judges. Then the judges choose ”the one”. • The actual selectionprocess runs from May untill August where the final group is chosen, afterwards they record their first album. But the programme is showed on television from the end of May to the release of the album in November. Locations in Denmark • The first auditions were held in three different locations in Denmark, Copenhagen, Odense and Aarhus. In that way it was easier for the girls in the different regions to get to the auditions. Afterwards the auditions where held in Copenhagen because of the easy access to everything; producers, songwriters, dancers and photographers.
