...e’s play, King Lear, is a woman whose utter essence is one worthy of respect. She allows her individual beliefs to flourish, despite the horrific consequences that she knows will inevitably follow. She refuses to publicly degrade herself by expressing her feelings for her father in return for his land. Both works of literature have encouraged me to speak out against what I disagree with, and to stand by my beliefs, however unpopular they may be. The characters of Dimmesdale and Cordelia have helped me tremendously to elucidate the exact nature I deem worthy of respect, and I have since modeled my behavior in accordance with that nature, so that I can respect myself.
