All through Shirley Jackson’s short story, we are introduces to things that are all in form, that all look familiar to the village, the villagers are all guilty of forgetting and ignoring change, they accept what they have been brought upon because it has worked for them for so many years, in attempt to continue the horror and the sacrificing of one individual each year for the sake of better corps they have forgotten to notice the need of change by those left behind, fail to notice the people lost with each lottery selection. The day of the selection, where the only voice of reason Mr. Adams wants to make a change and give up The Lottery is pushed away, and many agree with a change being strange and unreasonable forgetting about that what they are doing is inequitable and it is not fair ; just as Tessie, the selections for The Lottery in return for better corps looses her life, humanity forgets the fact that the need to overcome fears and need to change is required and speaking out against the immoral is an action of change.
