celebrating our veterans
... them we couldn’t practice religion freely, or even elect a candidate for president. I don’t think that we as citizens know how much soldiers at war have to go through in order to keep us free. I think there has to be a special breed of people who can withstand the type of situations that American soldiers go through. So the question is how can we celebrate our veterans? There are many things we can do such as displaying a flag in your yard, or donating care baskets to soldiers in Iraq. You can show respect by not criticizing the war or donating money to a cause that supports the United States. There are many ways to celebrate veterans. We even have holidays like Veteran’s day, Memorial Day, and Independence Day. On all of these days we put up flags all around town and have assemblies at school all to commemorate our veterans. I don’t have any grandparents or parents that have been in wars. But I know from other experiences, that when you listen to a story told about war from a veteran, it’s like nothing a history book can recreate. History books tell facts and the basic information. But when a soldier tells it, it’s coming from a first hand account. When you hear these stories they can be sad, and as a kid you might not think to say thank you. But as you get older and really start to think about what they had to go through to preserve our freedom, you might think twice.
