The Climax of the story is when Charlotte joins the crew. She does it to take Zachariah’s place, and finds that she is pretty good at being a sailor. To become one of the crew, she had to prove herself by climbing up the royal yard. That is the highest point in the rigging, and she did it! Jaggery ordered the men to all call her Mr. Doyle from now on, and put her in as one of the crew for the rest of the voyage. She moved into the forecastle with the men and they put up a sail in the corner of the room to give her privacy. Jaggery works her as hard as if she was one of the crew. The Falling actions of this story are as follows: ò Charlotte learned to fix the bowsprit and throw a knife. ò She had to cut the rigging free during a hurricane, and as she was falling Zachariah grabbed her arm and saved her. ò During, the hurricane, Mr. Hollybrass was murdered, and she was accused of it. ò She was in the brig, and Zachariah came out to talk to her. It turns out he didn’t die, and the hammock they threw into the ocean was empty. ò Charlotte was put on trial and found guilty of murdering Mr. Hollybrass. She was to be hung the next day. ò Zachariah freed her, she snuck into Jaggery’s quarters to find his gun, but he was there waiting for her. Keetch told him about their plan for another mutiny. He was keeping him informed the whole time. ò The captain fell overboard while trying to kill Charlotte with a knife. The resolution to the story is that the captain dies and can’t give her her punishment. The crew didn’t want her hanged, and they appointed her the new captain. They said in the log that Mr. Hollybrass and Captain Jagerry fell overboard during the hurricane. In the end, Charlotte had an interesting experience, and she loved being a sailor. Her father threw her journal into the fire when she got home because he didn’t want anybody to know what happened on board. After being home for a few days, Charlotte went back to the ship wearing her canvas trousers and blouse to be a sailor. Charlotte is a thirteen-year-old girl who is forced to board a ship with no other ladies. She is sailing to Providence, Rhode Island from Liverpool, England to live with her family. She went to the Barrington School for Better Girls, and she is American born. Her father gave her a journal to write down everything that happened on the journey over.
