...h man. His parents were Josiah and Abiah Franklin, and he was the 15th of 17 children. Benjamin had a wife, Deborah, a daughter, Sally, and two sons, Francis and William. Little Frankie died of smallpox, though, when he was only four years old. Ben was admired by many for his knowledge. He attended school for only two years, and while he was there, he studied Latin, reading, writing, and arithmetic. Amazingly, he was only ten when he finished school. One thing Ben really enjoyed was reading books. He longed to be a sailor, and his dad was afraid that he might run away someday to become one. His dad didn’t want him to become a sailor because Ben’s brother had died at sea, so he tried to find a job for him on land. Ben agreed to become an apprentice and would learn to be a printer. When nighttime came, Ben would secretly borrow new books from a friend of his who worked in a bookstore. The next morning, he would then secretly return the books.
