They cannot resist leader’s orders and commands. This is just the whole idea of completing the job that’s given to you. Some people have a fear of being perceived as brash, or rude. Individuals in general like the feeling they get when they are doing a good job. Even though the participants know what they are doing is morally wrong, the way they tried to justify themselves is by verbally disagreeing: “ Ordinary people, simply doing their jobs, and without any particular hostility on their part, can become agents of destructive process” (p.289, par. 97). Although their morality slowly vanished, it also appeared in another manner: individuals are most likely to experience pride towards all praises and credit they obtained form authority. Applicants work for experimenter’s satisfaction and by doing that, they are satisfied with their own performance. “ The most far reaching consequence is that the person feels responsible to the authority directing him, but feels no responsible for the content of the actions that authority subordinate person feels shame or pride depending on how adequately he has performed the actions call for by authority” (p 291, par. 108). It is the sense of royalty and discipline the human beings are developing. According to penalty, individuals have the opportunity to choose the characteristics for themselves: either feeling responsible or guilty. There is a large difference between responsibility and guilt. A certain amount of guilt is needed for ethical or moral behavior, but guilt, which overwhelms someone to the point of inactivity or depression, can’t be positive. People develop aggressive character, knowing that other individual is helpless and dependent upon them: “ If a person is placed in a situation in which he has complete power over another individual, whom he may punish as much as he likes, all that sadistic and bestial in man come to the fore” (p. 288, par. 92). People want to feel like worthwhile individuals and to know that they are noticeable and exist. They have to have control over somebody and understand that someone is listening and obeying their orders. The power that individuals express can be conveyed as positive, for a good deed and to control the situation without creating disorder. It can be also portrayed as negative and go overboard, constructing harmful results. Humans like to experience authority productively; if such attempt fails repeatedly they experience themselves as powerless, which lead to helplessness and depression. They feel like they don’t belong and can’t make a difference. They also feel ashamed in front of the authority figure and fear of not being wanted any more for other procedures is present.
