...other. Dr. Brunner probably thinks that Charlie is greedy and angry about his father leaving everything to his brother. Who has no concept of money. When Charlie says " I deserved the car " (when he was young) reveals Charlie was still hurt that when he brought home his report card with almost all A's and his father did not let him drive the car. He felt and still feels he worked hard for those mark's and he deserved to take the car for a drive and felt hurt and angry when he was not aloud too. "nothing I ever did was good enough for this guy" shows that Charlie did not feel like he was good enough for his father. He never impressed him and never got rewarded for the good things he did. The way he refered to his father as "this guy" could also mean something deeper. He probably did not think of him as much of a father. But a person that looked down upon him. "when I was scared the Rainman would come" This represents an childhood imaginary friend that Charlie made up in order to find comfort or possibly support. I have now found out yet what the Rainman really represents, but this is what I have interpereted from this so far. " I got what I expected" I think Charlie thought his father would leave everything to him, only because he was not informed there was another person it could be left to. But when he didn't leave it to him, he was suprised yet not suprised. He feels his father had never done anything good for him before, who would he do it now? I think it was his way of avoiding being hurt because of it. Making himself believe he knew he would get nothing but the rose bushes all along. That way it doesn't come as such a blow. Charlie's initial motivation to find the recipient of his father's estate was nothing more then to get it for himself. He was mad that he didn't recieve it and wanted it and was willing to do anything to get it. When Charlie discovers that Autistic man who was fond of his car was real...
