...urthermore, children and young people have a global commitment, they take interest in the environment and health of people all over the world. And not to forget; a strong sense of justice. For several years the Norwegian authorities have given priority to efforts to strengthen children's and young people's right to state their views and be heard. We try to follow into The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) constitutes the main basis for our efforts in meeting this objective. The principle of the child’s right to express his or her views in all matters affecting them – article 12 of the Convention – is most relevant when it comes to children’s environmental health. The main provisions for children’s participation in local planning are the Planning and Building Act (1989) and the National Policy Guidelines (NPG). The guidelines require municipalities to organize the planning process in such a way that views concerning children as an interested party are made known, and that children and young people are given the opportunity to participate themselves.
