Acceptance of Women

...thing humane. Though they are not as heavily displayed today, the myths of women still have a hold in today’s society. Whether in the workplace or simply in the home they are still mildly present. Somehow, despite experiences that have shown women have a far greater purpose that to serve men, the myths are still stronger than the reality sometimes. Though women have won many rights and are now supposed to be equal to men in their rights, there are still things that hold women back due to the belief in myths. In the workplace and at home are only two examples of where this occurs. According to the law in the United States, women are entitled to be paid and treated just as men are. But is a man and a woman are up against each other for a promotion, and the deciding person holds a prejudice against the women because of myths, then how is she being treated fairly? She isn’t if she doesn’t get the promotion based on the fact that she is a woman and thus she is not being treated fairly even under the law. Women may even begin to believe the myths about them to be true through guilt from a man. It is assumed by men today that a woman is still solely responsible for caring for the children and the home. But suppose that she and her husband both have jobs, they both work the same amount of time each week and both make the same amount of money. Why then, is it still her job to change the baby’s diaper while she is cooking dinner or doing the dishes if her husband is doing nothing but watching a football game? It’s not her job.
