...rder, it is not morally right to prevent the person who is suffering from a terminal illness to decide their own fate. I would feel justified in breaking this law and readily accept the consequences of my defiance, because in agreeing with King “one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws” (186). I believe that my defiance of this law, within the correct circumstances, might help to overturn it in the future. The circumstances for breaking this law would have to include that the patient wishing to end their suffering be indeed, suffering. They would also need to be 18 years of age or older, have a diagnosis from 2 separate physicians specializing in the specified illness, and the patient would have to undergo a psychiatric evaluation to show that they are in the correct state of mind to make a decision like this. If those circumstances were met I would proceed in defying this law I believe to be unjust without any doubt ...
