Writing can cause a large deal of frustration for a many people. Once again it all starts with the person on the receiving end understanding what is meant by the sender. Clear writing is writing that cannot be misunderstood. Clarity means there can be no ambiguity on the writers’ part. (Wiley, 2003) Most people write the way they speak. Most email or memos lack organization, clarity, and effectiveness. In order to prevent lacking communication most businesses are implementing training of “common” skills, thus reducing miscommunications. Written communication is a necessary managerial skill. Management should negate clear and concise ideas or thoughts. Alternatively, poor communication skills can often lead to a reduction in employee comprehension, and cooperation. The difference between a well vs. a poorly written document can have dramatic impacts on the organizations and cost a great deal in time and money. Unfortunately, the process of writing cannot be separated from the content of writing. No matter how good the ideas, if the writing is ineffective, there is a very good chance the reader will either miss the good ideas or will discount them.
