...cinated by the chemicals. In 1661 he joined Trinity College, Cambridge, where his uncle William Ayscough had studied, staying there for 33 years. In 1699 he became Master of the Mint. He represented his University in Parliament, and was elected President of the Royal Society, a post which he occupied for 24 years. Newton discovered that, when a thin beam of sunlight passed through a glass prism, one saw the spectrum of colors that was formed. Newton discovered that a white light is really a mixture of many different types of rays which are refracted at slightly different angles. He constructed a reflecting telescope. Newton was one of the first people, besides Archimedes and Labiuz, to discover integral calculus. Newton's greatest achievement was his work in physics and celestial mechanics. Newton also came up with his own Law of Motion stating that every object in a state of uniform motion remains in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it, the relationship between an object's mass m, its acceleration a, and the applied force F is F = ma, and that for every action there is an equal and opposite re-action.
