Sparta Vs. Athens

... Delian League. Many people came together under this league because it made people independent. But as soon as Athens made this into their own empire it outraged many people. When others realized that Athens could start to gain more and more power they turned to Sparta. The Spartans and Athenians already had disagreements of there own so this made the Spartans very mad. They then declared war against the Athenians. The outcome of this war didn’t turn out the way that Athens would have hoped. They were stripped of there powerful fleet and empire. This minor clash of ideas soon reduced Athens to a second rate power in Greece The Persian war brought on a whole new concept for these two fighting city- states. It was during this time that they realized that they must band together if they wanted to all survive this war. They were forced to work together in order to protect themselves and their homeland. The Persians first invaded Athens. Then they moved into Sparta. The Spartans and the Athenians were both defeated by the Persians. Then Sparta, Athens, and other Greek states came together as one and won the Persian war. Before the Persian and Peloponnesian wars Sparta and Athens were both divided into different social classes. Even though the classes were named differently they were basically based on the same thing. Everything was based on how wealthy you were, if you were very wealthy you wouldn’t have to pay for a crime in the same way a slave would, people also looked up to if you had money.
