Soon there were “Madonna Wannabes” who tried to walk, talk and dress like Madonna, who was really just mimicking Marilyn Monroe’s “Blonde Bombshell” image. (People Weekly) Madonna began her acting career with a role in b-movie, “A certain Sacrifice,” which led to a staring role in “Desperately Seeking Susan.” She and Penn made a movie together called “Shanghai Surprise” which became Madonna’s first big failure, along with her marriage to Penn. In 1988 they were separated, (bandbiographies.com) and they got divorced in 1989. Their marriage only lasted two years. (rollingstone.com) Though she was upset by the divorce, she still continued to excel in her career. In the spring of 1989 she released “Like a Prayer.” This song caused a lot of controversy with its mix of sex and religion. It caused her to be condemned by the Vatican, and she lost a deal with Pepsi Cola. She also continued acting, taking a part in the blockbuster movie Dick Tracy. In 1992, she signed a multimillion-dollar contract with Time Warner, and she had a starring role in the movie “A league of their own.” (bandbiographies.com) That same year she put our her seventh album, “Erotica” along with her book “Sex.” She later made a documentary movie about herself called “Truth or Dare.” In 1994, she released her album “Bedtime Stories.” (rollingstone.com) Later she released her album “take a Bow” which put her back on top. (vh1.com) In 1995 she starred in Alan Parker’s, Evita, as Evita Peron. That same year she won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, and she also released another album “Something to Remember.” (rollingstone.com) On October 14, 1996 Madonna gave birth to her first child, a girl, named Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon, daughter of Carlos Leon. Even having a baby was not going to stop her, in 1998 she returned to music with her album “Ray of Light,” produced my William Orbit. She also recorded “Beautiful Stranger” and “The Next Best thing” for the “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me” soundtrack.
