inventing responsibility
...houghts to what society wants. They are rarely given the chance to put what they want into their inventions. They invent to only please the world. In that, they are given the responsibility to make sure their inventions are tested to work and be safe. For, they realize that if there inventions do not function properly or are harmful they will be held responsible. In history many of the weapons that we have today did not exist, many inventors were given the responsibility of protecting the country by inventing weapons. Inventors must always consider all the possible ways that society could use their inventions. If this responsibility is neglected then many inventions will be used the wrong way, some even as weapons to kill. It is obvious to see that all inventors have a great deal of responsibility when carrying out their duties. There are situations when an inventor should not be held responsible for his/her invention. The inventor could have had very good intentions to invent something that the all of mankind could benefit from. For instance if an inventor invented a new kind of knife that could cut through metal, and never get dull. And if weeks after the release of the new knife it was used by a murder to kill a victim. In this case the inventor should not be punished, for his intentions were that the knife be used to cut metal not flesh. The murderer is the lonely one to blame for the crime, for the inventor could not control how society used the tool, even if it was so easily used as a weapon. An inventor should also not be punished if he accidentally stumbles upon a horrible killing machine. Such as the creation of the atom bomb, many mathematicians worked on the bomb. One scientist, Albert Einstein devoted all his time to it, not even knowing that it would be used for destruction. All he was trying to do was solve a math problem, and once he did it was use to create the atom bomb. Which was then used by the United States on Japan killing hundred’s of thousands people. After hearing the news he deeply regrets ever solving that problem. This inventor does not deserve the blame for the mass-killing weapon that he unintentionally invented. These inventors have fallen victims to society’s way of interpreting their inventions. This proves that some inventors should not be held accountable for the killing machines they invent. There also situations when an inventor should be held accountable for the weapons they create. Inventors are often used at war times to create weapons that can be used against a countries enemy.
