... the most popular and most used amendments to this day. That’s only one part of the many different rights the 5th amendment expresses. Also an example of the 5th amendment in modern day history is a movie called “Double Jeopardy.” This movie deals with a woman whose husband deserts her and sets her up for murder. She is charged and does time, then she finds out he vanished with a new identity. With her knowledge of the law, she can take revenge, and not do time. According the amendment, no person can “be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb for the same offence.” The rights also continue to say that no person can be tried until proven guilty preventing the various abusive practices from both the English and continental European legal systems. In our times this is called “due process,” and is used everyday. Historically, Old World European legal systems would throw supposed criminals in jail for months at a time without knowing for sure if they were, in fact, guilty.
