Fools Crow Interptetive Essay

...gets his final name Fools Crow, at one of his major turning point when he strives at the enemy war party. I acknowledge each stage of character development in the novel, is not only by his changes in his Indian name, but by a change in his values and responsibilities as well. It is a sign of growing and maturing to the person they are suppose to become. That is why the Indians see it necessary to change their names as they change themselves. Another point I seem to learn more about in Fool Crow, was about war and responsibility. During the raiding on Crows, White Man’s Dog had to lead three youths. Having to work together so they can make the raid successfully, this to me shows brave ship and team work (10). Knowing that each other has one another’s back and would do anything to protect their tribe is so honorably. This was a strong point to me because it shows how true the people of the tribe really were. There are many different connections the Indians have. A good example is with the animals. Raven says to when asking that White Man’s Dog help free a wolverine from a trap, “I understand you now have a helper who is both strong a true of heart. It will take such a man to release our four-legged brother” (52). After freeing the wolverine, White Man’s Dog receives power and spiritual cleansing form this animal brother. There are many experiences through the book with animal like this one. I chose this one though because the animal spirits and White Man’s Dogs people crusade for the benefit of the Blackfoot people. It is also gaining respect and willingness to Mik-api’s helper Fools Crow. Reading this book also made me understand a lot about the sacrifice there was being an Indian. White Man’s Dog makes the decision to leave his pregnant wife to go on a war part against the crow to avenge the mutilation of Yellow Kidney (136).
