Vietnam

...ed. More voices became heard and the American churches became involved, and began to challenge the American presence in Vietnam. Although the United States was anti-communist they should have realized that even if they got involved and helped South Vietnam, the country was too weak that and once the troops pulled out communist rule would take over regardless. There are many reasons as to why Vietnam was a bad decision. The terrain was unknown to the US troops, they were unable to effectively get anything done. So many soldiers lost their lives in the Vietnam jungle because they had no experience in that type of terrain, and the Viet Cong had a fair advantage. General Matthew Ridgeway a highly respected American commander of the United Nations Forces in Korea warned the United States would suffer disaster if they became committed to defending a fledging state in Asia. He also believed that there would be too many logistical difficulties in trying to supply ground forces so far from the American mainland. Nor were American troops trained for the kind of warfare that they were likely to encounter in Vietnam (Warren).
