The Special Room
...concocting in his mind. For the moment however one of my daily pastimes is scaring the pair of them. In this, I know that they will soon forget what I had just done and they will still remain friendly to me always. My name is Gumper. Although I am cruel to Brian and Shark I am too stubborn to give up this habit as it is what keeps me occupied during the day when I am not spending time with my guardian. With her, I am on my best behaviour. In return I receive a friendly sort of love. I spend my days hoping that she could spend much time with and be more like me, often feeling slightly lonely that she does not. She is the closest thing I have to being a friend, so I treasure her dearly. My Guardian’s name is Leanne. Whenever she comes to visit me I am tranced in the beauty of her deep blue eyes. They are the colour of misty white, blue and black all intertwined. I am always left in a state of daze when I look within their depths. I try to search my soul for a moment or a memory I can’t quite remember. A memory so special to me but I can’t get the image quite right. I am broken out of the daze when she begins feeding us. Each day at sunrise and sunset, we are given our meals and today is no exception. ‘Hello my little guys! How are you today?’ she exclaims with an extra hint of excitement than usual. ‘Hi!’ I think back as I look back at her eyes and at the food in her hand. ‘I have a special surprise for you today! I know you guys will absolutely love her. Especially you Gumper.’ Unfortunately I am not too engrossed in my food to hear what she had just said nor do I notice her leave. I know that I am not very intelligent. The memories seem to evanesce, falling through the cracks and disappearing almost entirely before I am able to capture them. Brian and Shark aren’t any brighter either and their memories are definitely poorer than mine. I dislike the fact that I have a poor memory. I believe that Leanne loves me above the others for she would spend, what seemed like, hours in a day talking to me and telling me things. I have learnt to understand her and her language. As for learning to speak it, my memory and abilities have failed me time and time again. I wish I could just talk to her so that we could have a perfect friendship. Maybe she will understand me then I know it will never happen though and it is times like these that I feel especially lonely. Today I continued my normal routine of roaming around the room and scaring Brian and Shark, which is really all I can really do on these dull days. Today however was about to take a new course. At first, the sun suddenly vanished as fast as it had appeared. I did not know what was going on so I rushed to hide behind my plant. Leanne had come home and came towards us but she did not greet us happily as she usually did. The tranquillity within the room had disappeared and the disturbances that Leanne was causing made me feel too uneasy and scared to look out at her. I stayed behind my plant for a long time but when I did finally come out there was a foreign object in our midst. I waited a long time to make sure nothing else was going to happen but when nothing did, I dared myself to approach it. It appeared to be a large, round bubble. As I went closer, I realised that it was indeed a large, round bubble! I even dared to touch its surface. It was so smooth and soft. I was so intrigued at how similar it was to a normal bubble but how different. It was so big and was not perfectly round all the way through though. To my surprise it hasn’t popped like normal bubbles do too. After seeing that I was perfectly safe in touching the bubble, Brian and Shark came out to look also. ‘What could it be?’ asked Brian. ‘Maybe it’s a bubble,’ said Shark. ‘Obviously it’s a bubble but why is it here? Didn’t Leanne say something about a surprise today?’ I asked. We spent a very long time questioning what it was but unfortunately out memories could not think of any other possible ideas. ‘What could it be?’ asked Brian. ‘Maybe it’s a bubble,’ said Shark. ‘Obviously it’s a bubble but why is it here? Didn’t Leanne say something about a surprise today?’ I asked. ‘What is that!’ exclaimed Shark after which he quickly rushed off to his hiding place. Not knowing what was going on Brian quickly followed his lead. I however was too intrigued by the bubble to move and continued to stare into its depths. Slowly it emerged...
