...family seems to have a lot of tension in the air mostly caused by Cosmo and Loretta. Cosmo guilt from his secret affair made this so because he’s risking the security of his marriage and family. Loretta puts herself in an awkward position with her family because they are forced to cover up for her when Johnny comes around and she’s not there. Also, the brothers already don’t get along because of the incident that got Ronnie’s hand chopped off. I feel Ronnie was looking for revenge on his brother at the same time felt uncontrollably attracted to Loretta. Loretta tries to deny her feelings for Ronnie because she thinks happiness is possible only if she has the security and family the marriage to Johnny will bring her. Ronnie has a different perception of what role love plays in people lives, he feels love don’t make things good; that they are suppose to love the wrong people. By marrying Johnny she is doing what she feels is right because of what he offers her. Loretta’s dilemma is should she keep Johnny’s proposal and commitment to her or follow her heart and go with Ronnie. The theme of love is presented in the scene when Loretta’s uncle was telling the story about the moon Cosmo bought with him when he came to see Rose. The full moon shined bright that night, as it did again when Loretta and Ronnie slept together for the first time. Even Loretta’s uncle felt the mood and made love with to his wife. Loretta wants to be romanced, but she wasn’t romantic herself. Johnny proposed to her in the restaurant was not quite as romantic as it could have been but she made the best of it. She asked him to kneel down and present a ring to her which would be the right way. Throughout the movie Loretta starts to rediscover her beauty, romance and love. Ronnie helped her find her sexuality by making her feel that love as well as professing it to her. Rose demonstrates the dynamics of family from a collectivist culture in her journey to understand why Cosmo is having an affair with another woman. Rose is smart enough not to blame herself for what Cosmo is doing but looks answers from other men such as Johnny and Mahoney. Rose determines that Cosmo is cheating on her because he fears death.
