... to get back on that bicycle seat. Loneliness didn’t suit me. I arrived at the restaurant at ten to nine. I was early. In any case, the waiter showed me to our table, and fetched me a drink while I waited. Well, I waited….and waited. Three-quarters of an hour passed and there was still no sign of my date. It looked like he was a no show. I was just getting up to leave when my date burst through the doors to the restaurant. Beads of sweat were dripping from his forehead. First impressions were not good. He was wearing a suit. That was ok. But with a pair of runners. Not ok. His cheeks were a shiny red, and he seemed to be severely out of breath. He rushed over to the table and babbled his apologies. He had missed the bus and had to walk here. “The bus, I thought to myself. So, he didn’t have a car then…” While ordering, Michael insisted on choosing my dinner for me. And might I add, it was the most expensive choice on the menu. Well, he was paying, so I guessed he was trying to make up for his late appearance. Half-way through dinner, and the conversation was flowing, even though I hadn’t been given a chance to contribute to it. He was unbelievable. He chewed with his mouth open, talked with his mouth full and sprayed crumbs everywhere. This man was disgusting. He insisted on reciting rude limericks to not only myself, but the people at the neighbouring tables. I was completely mortified.
