Gay Marriage
...this is not true, homosexuals can be as tender hearted and they do have relationships. Most gay men will try to find a relationship as soon as possible and will try to stay in for as long as possible. Just like anyone who is straight gay people also think the same way, they love, hate and even cheat on others just like straight men. There is not much difference between the two. Homosexuals are just as committed to society as others are; they value and participate in family life, and are committed to their neighbours and want a better and safer place to live for all people, they are not ignorant and care for the welfare of all. Gay marriages are not different from heterosexual marriages, in fact it may be better as most gay marriages are based on more than just good looks and talk, it is based on friendship and a life together, this is evident as most gay couples have waited most of their lives to get married to the ones they love in Canada. In California every third person has had a divorce, which clearly shows that many do not believe that marriage is very scared. Marriage is sacred to same-sex couples, they do respect marriage, and they do feel the exact way anyone else would feel the same way about marriage as any other couple would. The fact of the matter is that same-sex couples can also take care of children no matter what others may believe. As they can’t have children of their own, adopting one would give them the chance to love it and care for it as anyone else would if it was their own child. Children need love, caring and support, and same-sex couples just like heterosexual couples can also love, care and support children. Gay couples can show much love and they share their love with children and really care that the child receives all the attention that is needed. Children can also be taught by a gay teacher because they teach everything that a normal teacher would, a heterosexual or a homosexual can never influence what kind of sexual preference a person chooses because that is ones own decision, a person who has been raised by straight parents can still become gay when he/she grows up this is their decision. According to Section 7 of the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms, ‘every individual has the right to life, liberty and freedom.’ To them life is what they are and they believe they should continue their way of life freely as anyone else would, to them this is like a religion, they believe it. Homosexuality is a way of life in Europe and is completely acceptable. It has been around since the beginning of civilization, but every country has once or still discriminates against homosexuals, Italy has always, and is possible it will until there is religion, as the Vatican is located in this nation. All other countries have accepted gay rights and homosexuals as equal citizens in the eyes of the law. Europe has become a very liberal continent and has gone as far as recognizing same-sex marriage; there are even homosexual MP’s in some European countries. Many countries have legalized homosexuality since the 1930’s. This proves that the world is ready for change and that change needs to take place in North America also. Sweden has decriminalized homosexuality since 1944, and proclaimed in 1977 that “two persons of the same sex living together shall be fully accepted by Swedish society.” (Source), while in 1982, a lesbian MP Evelian Eshuis took office in the Netherlands. Every country has become tolerant towards homosexuality in Europe and it must be followed in Canada, more over most European countries recognize same sex couples and are working for better relations in communities. Homosexuals have more rights in Europe and this need to be transferred to Canada by legalizing same-sex marriage and following the Charter. In America, it seems to get worse everyday, even though Oregon has voted to legalize gay marriage, majority of the country doesn’t agree; therefore the rights of this significant minority is answered with one call, majority will always win. Many people are opposed to gay marriage because of their specific religions, but in Europe, they have been given many rights, but so have religious groups. Homosexuals have been supported in Europe both by the media and many people are now more open to change and believe that gay rights would only increase awareness and tolerance for humans. (Is gay life better in Europe, www.advocate.com) There is a Civil Partnership Bill being passed in England and it should go through by the end of this year; many countries including the Catholic dominant Spain, which is passing a bill to become the third country in the world to legalize gay marriage. Many countries are moving towards this decisive factor in human rights. It may seem that everyone is happy in Europe, but there has also been a lot of opposition to these critical steps by European nations. After the Spanish government decided to distance itself from the Church, homo filmmaker Pedro Almodovar said, “The Church is furious, when the Social government agreed to treat same-sex unions as the equal [of heterosexual marriage], it made the Church go crazy. So now they’re waging campaigns, trying the faithful to vote them out of office…” (Is gay life better in Europe, www.advocate.com) There has always been racism and will always be racism until, people have separate sets of beliefs, but of course individuals, with individual ideas can not be forced to think alike. Many people, who oppose same-sex marriages, especially from North America believe that life is easier for homosexuals in Europe, but it is the same and the struggle for freedom is identical in many ways, but one could say more developed and far ahead. Rights for homosexuals must be fought for on every battle field, on the streets and in the courts equally.
