... Napwikwan camp for horses. Yellow Kidney, the older wiser leader of the group, sends Eagle Ribs and Fast Horse in two different directions to steal some of the Napikwan grazing horses. He was walking away from the lodge of his old enemy Bull Shield and as he was he heard someone yelling “Oh, you Crows are puny, your horses are puny and your women make me sick! If I had time I would ride among you and cut off your puny women heads, you cowardly Crows” (Welch 73) At the time Yellow Kidney did not know it was Fast Horse but after a brief discussion with the rest of the tribe they determined it was Fast Horse. He was the only one young enough to do something that stupid and cause one of the Pikuni’s wisest men to get captured. In my opinion and obviously to Yellow Kidney that was an act of betrayal no matter what excuses Fast Horse may have And towards the end of the book Rides-at-the-door is betrayed by his son Running Fisher and one of his wives Kills-close-to-the-lake. The essentially “cheat” on him and sleep together causing them to lose Rides-at-the-door’s trust. Rides-at-the-door calls his son into his lodge and says, “You have brought dishonor into my lodge. My wife Striped Face tells me that you are copulating with each other. How she knows this I do not ask. For now I will take her word. I have never known her to lie about an important thing, and I do not think she is lying now.” (Welch 341) This is clearly an act of betrayal and is also one of the most common act of betrayal in the United States today by anyone. I’m pretty sure that the same thing occurs in other countries just as often as well.
