Within the short story “Mrs. Sen’s”, the main character, a middle aged Asian Indian woman, attempts to maker America as much like home as possible. She feels very alone here in America and shows her dissatisfaction with her new living place through her daily routines. Specifically, she refuses to drive cars because in India, unlike America, she had an easy time of walking down to the local markets to acquire all of the items that she needed and the car driving was not something that she could get used to (QUOTE). Also her attempt to recreate home can be seen by observing her ways around the house. (QUOTE COOKING) She sits for hours making fresh foods for her and her husband to eat as if they were eating a grand meal. This custom along with the custom of covering all of the items in her house creates a feeling for her of what life was like in Calcutta.
