Two different points of view about loving in Two different points of view about loving and the sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare

.... On the contrary, there is the play called “Crossroad a sad Vaudeville” by Carlos Solórzano, which also has as theme ‘love’. However, in its plot stands out the opposite concept about this theme treated before in the sonnet 130. This, because for a woman the fact of being old and perhaps not so beautiful as she used to be could deprive her from being close to the person she is in love with. On the subject of the plot, this play is about a meeting, on stage, between two lovers who have fair time keeping up with an email? relationship, without meeting each other at once. There are only two main characters: The woman and the man. The play starts when the man arrived at the stage looking anxiously for a woman, who must be wearing a white flower on her clothes. The man only has a picture of her that she had sent before; in the picture she looks young, has dark hair and big wonderful blue eyes. Even though the man asked to the flagman several times about her, he never received back any clear answer. Suddenly, a woman dressed in black came in, her face was covered with a dark veil and was wearing a white flower on her clothes. Nevertheless, at the moment when the woman was discovered by the flagman lantern, she tore the white flower from her dress and put it in her purse. After that, she uncovered her face and set a conversation with the man, and in a way she tried to tell him that she was the person he was looking for but she couldn’t do it so direct; even though she wasn’t wearing the white flower on her dress and her face wasn’t just like the woman in the picture, she was that woman but after a long time. The point is that she had lied about her age and she played to be younger at the moment when they kept in touch at first. For that reason, she never told the truth before the meeting. Furthermore, during the conversation the woman could speak up about her feelings, in fact she told him the truth by a story, of course, she was pretending to talk about a friend using her own experiences. She said that she had been alone for such a long time, waiting for the real love to come. Even so, in the meantime, while her loneliness’ was killing her, she used to write to a young man. This man, naturally was the man in front of her but he didn’t get it. So, the woman went on with the story for a while more and amazingly she could involve him in the reality of this meeting, in fact, for a moment he thought that she was the woman he was waiting for. Notwithstanding, for him it was just a short dream and immediately he realized that it by no mean could be possible; as a result she told him she was sure that the woman he was waiting for wasn’t going to come and then she left. In this play, the theme of love is obviously the target of the author, although it is manipulated by the character of the woman, because she put in the foreground her perspective of love; perspective that by all means the fact of being old and ,after all , not such pretty as she used to be doesn’t allow her to search for her desires of loving. She is ashamed and afraid. Perhaps, she thinks that if she is honest with the man, she would also probably risking herself to play a ridiculous role and then being spurned. Therefore, she is very coward and selfish with herself, and also, with the man because she didn’t give him the opportunity to choose between standing by her despite the fact that she lied to him or going away and then thinking about what happened. At this point it is very important to highlight that the man was deeply in love with the woman. As result she left him very disappointed, thinking that the woman he was anxiously waiting for never went. Surely the woman will be unhappy forever because she wasn’t brave enough to face the truth and find a fair overcome. As you can see, both summaries show us two extreme points and different views about love’s meaning. Indeed, there are clear differences among the characters, the theme of loving and the author’s target in both written works. At first, there is a very clear contrast among character’s attitude, in terms of how they are facing their feelings. Shakespeare is direct, honest and, at the same time, romantic and realistic by speaking up his feelings in the open without any doubts; just as the man in Crossroad did. Whereas, the woman t...
