What is Patriotism?
...stice, integrity, and the moral fibers of this nation. This nation is seemingly getting away from patriotis. The idea of self-sacrifice, service, or putting yourself below the needs of many is being replaced with selfish individualism. The American dream was based on freedom OF religion, (not freedom from religion); freedom of speech, and freedom from want and fear. You get exactly what you work for, nothing more or less. Today the dream has been corrupted into how much “stuff” you can acquire in the shortest amount of time. The average American is getting away from patriotism by taking for granted everything the founding fathers established. They are getting away from patriotism by not standing up to the liberal, anti-American rhetoric that is starting to pollute every aspect of our lives. They are backing down from the boards and committees that decide on issues such as the “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance and allowing prayer for all religion in schools. The youth of this generation (most, not all) has the idea that patriotism is “uncool” because it involves loyalty, courage, honor, and respect for past generations that sacrificed something; or everything so that we can bask in freedom every second of every day. Patriotism involves standing up for what’s right and just, not what appeases the few and punishes the whole. America is supporting the troops and the war. Supporting the war is, whether you believe it or not, is supporting the troops. This is because the troops support the war, and they are men of integrity and patriotism. Many have given up easy lives to serve this great nation and they continue to pay the price for our freedom. This is patriotism.
