... this theory, all tales, myths and legends from different religions and different parts of the world are fundamentally the same story. They all have a common underlying structure and the heroes of these stories go through journeys which follow the same basic pattern. In order to summarize and explain this theory clearly, this essay will focus on the three basic stages of “The Hero’s Journey”: “The Departure”, “The Initiation” and “The Return”. According to Campbell’s theory, the first stage of “The Hero’s Journey” is “The Departure”. At this stage, the hero is separating from his known world and getting ready to face a new world where the limits and the rules are unknown. In the meantime, the hero is discovering different aspects of his/her personality while maturing and leaving his/her known self and innocence behind.
