... down upon and are thought to be undisciplined, but the manner in which Jordan has tried to defend them has in a way backfired and has made them seem grotesque and not cute, chubby and friendly. One’s personality cannot be judged by the size of their bodies. Fat and thin people alike can be either sweet, surly, or both. Jordan in her article has unjustly categorized the two main personality types by weight which is hard to agree with. It’s not true that “thin people turn surly mean and hard at a young age because they never learn the value of a hot-fudge sundae for easing tension.” It’s not that the fat people observed by Jordan were happy and content with life because they learnt the value of a hot-fudge sundae that thin people deprived them selves of. There are definitely other reasons. It is also not true that thin people dislike soft gooey things because they themselves are supposedly hard, cold and dull. Some thin people might have their reasons but this theory cannot apply to all of them. It cannot be said that thin people are always loaded with energy. Most thin people are the way they are because they are anorexic which really means they do not have much energy to “fix screen doors and lick S&H green stamps” as the author shows them doing. Even if they do have the energy to do such things, this does not mean that they are, in Jordan’s words, dangerous. They just know how and where to utilize their time. All fat people are not sluggish. A person’s energy level depends mostly on their thinking. Although weight does cause lethargy, limiting certain activities, it does not entirely make a person sluggish. Another point made by Jordan that I very much disagree with is that thin people go straight to the heart of the matter of things whereas fat people supposedly like to leave things unclear. This does not say much in a fat persons favor. To begin with, it is not true that there is no truth, and that even if there is, fat people tend to ignore it while thin people are always restless to face it.
