...o believe by the Americans that it was a worthless piece of real estate. That opinion changed after gold was discovered in Canadian territory in the late 1890’s. The Canadians and the Americans argued over this discovery. The Canadians authorities felt that there should be a bored close to the coast, which included more land space in America. The Americans thought differently, they felt that the border should be stretched out further into Canadian territory. Discussion about this was going on since the early 1899 and very little progress was made. The British were worried because the Americans because the Americans were willing to fight for that land and Britain did not want to make an enemy out of the Americans. Britain was determined to arrive at a Canadian solution and offered its assistance towards them. Before the British judge left for Canada the queen told him that if it came down to his vote that he was to vote in favour of the American boundary.
