One half of all top aces in WWI were Canadian. Most of the pilots who flew costal operations were Canadian. If it was not for Joe Brown the germans could have ruled the skies. The air force gave women a new role in the workplace and at home .They would do lots of jobs in the auxiliary air force. They were trained in more than 40 trades including clerks, air frame, aero engine, radar and wireless mechanics. Woman in the war used to always stay home until the war came and then they were given a chance to work but at first it was only at home in factories or on the farm. As the war progressed they were moved closer to the battle field in the war room doing radar or wireless mechanics. The air force helped give woman a chance to work near the action and not stay home all the time. The air force was a big boost for the economy by creating jobs and making trade with allies. The air force helped with the economy by making more jobs because you would need people to build the planes to fly them to repair them and to make ammunition for them. It helped boost the economy selling the ammunitions and aircrafts it built to allied air forces. In WWI Canada was under British rule but as the war came to an end Canada took steps to to developed its own air force.
